The candidates (with vote totals in parenthesis) are Louise Day Hicks (93,056), Thomas Eisenstadt (71,088), Joseph Lee Jr. (65,032), William O’Connor (58,124), and John McDonough (53,546). Unsuccessful candidates include all five who were backed by Citizens for the Boston Public Schools: Arthur Gartland (51,262), Mel King (45,329), Velia DeCesare (41,821), John Gaquin (37,055), and George Parker (36,726).
